December 5 from my driveway
Today, I am thinking I may have known a killer. Or two.
There were more details than that, but it made me think, I may have known a killer one time.
I remember a book an ex lover gave me about serial killers. It talked about infamous serial killers but also how we never know how close we are to a killer on any given day.
The book was authored by a guy who thought he road an elevator in his apartment building with a killer.
There were more details than that, but it made me think, I may have known a killer one time.
My friend's ex. She says he's too stupid to be a killer and never get caught. So, I probably let my imagination run away from me.
It was about 20 years ago. I was laying in bed half asleep and had the boob tube on one of those unsolved case TV shows. They were discussing one of the best crime scene sketch artists in the country.

She had a murder suspect drawn, she was showing as an example of how good she was. This guy had not been caught, though.
This sketch was of a man known by the same first name as my friend's ex and who was born near here and moved to Oklahoma. The murder occurred in New Mexico.
The sketch looked like my friend's ex, but thinner. She says nowadays he is mainly pickled 24/7, so if it was him, then he probably doesn't even remember it.
I fell asleep during the TV show and never saw a rerun of that particular episode again.
How many times have we been close to a killer? I read a little article, just this morning, about a lady who ran out of gas on her way to work and got in a pickup truck of a guy who stopped. She couldn't even see his face clearly in the darkness.

He took her 20 miles to the gas station plus 20 miles back to her car. She said God told her to get in the truck, so she felt this was an angel from Heaven, not a human man. She never even saw his face until she was asking him if he was an angel and car headlights illuminated his face at that exact moment.
Something like this happened to me right out of high school. Minus the bit about him being an Angel from Heaven. And minus God telling me to get in his old Caddy.

I knew things weren't right when he said he had just been somewhere that wasn't anywhere near the highway we were driving on. It basically was the exact opposite. A totally different highway.
He took me to the gas station 20 miles and wanted to take me back 20 miles to my vehicle.
I read a lot in those "True Crime" magazines back then and said, "No, I will call my mom," (pay phones, no cell phones) You should have seen the disappointment in his face.
He tried to talk me out of calling my mom and to just get back in the car with him, he said, "Don't bother your mom with such a trivial thing."

None of it was trivial to me.
Then is when I thought he might be a killer.
